Celebrating World Ozone Day : 16th September 2020

Ozone for life: 35 years of ozone layer protection

The lessons from the successes of the Montreal Protocol provide the clues in addressing on-going crisis at planetary level of COVID19. That clue is linked to the collective action by the global citizens
The theme for the celebration of this year's World Ozone Day marked on 16th September is "Ozone for life: 35 years of ozone layer protection". The slogan of the day, 'Ozone for life'. It reminds us that not only is ozone crucial for present life on Earth, but that we must continue our efforts to protect the ozone layer for future generations.

In this year of the pandemic of COVID19, TERRE Policy Center- Smart Campus Cloud Network and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) have jointly organized an event to celebrate the success of the ozone layer protection. The event would include speeches from the chief scientist of NASA UASA -Dr. Paul Newman and Chief of global compliance of the Ozone treaty of the Montreal Protocol, Dr. Gilbert Bankobeza. The webinar is open for all and will be followed by the prize distribution for the nation-wide competition conducted for school and college students as part of an awareness effort. The results of the competition would be declared on the 16th of September by the juries and panelists. The competitions included several awareness raising activities such as ‘Make a homemade mask’, ‘Ask a Scientist’, Essays, posters and slogans!
