U75: Net -Zero University Campus
The event is called 'U75: Net-Zero in the University Campus’. Inspired by the LiFE (Lifestyle Change for Environment) a mission jointly launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and UNSG Antonio Guterres, this online conference is to start action on life-threatening climate crisis is organised by Green TERRE Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation.
Recognising that India has pledged its Net Zero (Carbon Neutral) target by 2070, Smart Campus Cloud Network has initiated a movement of 'Not Zero-Net Zero', under the mentorship of Former Under-Secretary-General of United Nations, Advisor WRI - Erik Solheim, and Former Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change & Member of Parliament - Prakash Javadekar. The nation wide campaign on making campus Carbon Neutral, by pledging 'Not Zero - Net Zero’ will be officially launched by SCCN (www.sccnhub.com). It is supported by AICTE, UNESCO, EESL, ASSOCHAM and UGC. The movement was piloted in the year 2021 and since then 250+ universities have signed the pledge of Carbon Neutrality. Campus of universities is where the young minds are moulded, talents are incubated and innovations are implemented to address the challenges like climate crisis.
To mark India’s 75th Anniversary of Independence - Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav, we are inviting 75 universities in India to the start of the journey of these 75 universities towards making their campus Carbon Neutral. Universities are selected in consultation with our mentors. Later, inspired by this launch others can also join the march. Through learning by doing and managing digital measurements your university and students can serve as climate ambassadors .
The launch is scheduled on 1st May 2023 at 11:30 am. ( Eminent speakers include Hon. Prakash Javadekar, MP and Mentor for SCCN, Erik Solheim former UN USG and Norways’ environment Minister . AICTE-Chairman , UNESCO-Paris Project Advisor, Chairman NBA and NFET, UGC( tbc), Niti Aayog ( tbc) along with Chancellors and Vice Chancellors from Nalanda, UPES, MIT ADT and NIAS-IISC.
